The start of the Monaco Grand Prix has been postponed. The formation lap will start nine minutes later than scheduled due to the first raindrops on the circuit.

The formation lap will start behind the safety car, as it is now raining hard in the streets of Monte Carlo. Several drivers have been told that heavy rain is expected in the next few minutes. So we're definitely going to see a start on wet tyres.

Verstappen hoped for rain

"We'll get a warning ten minutes beforehand when they put themselves in order," Giampiero Lambiase announced over Max Verstappen's on the team radio. The formation lap was due to start at 15:09 local time, but race control later announced a delayed start. A second message indicated a 15:16 start time.
