Australian Grand Prix

The Australian Grand Prix was routinely scheduled as the first race of the Formula One season between 2011 and 2019. However, this went on the back burner due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is the third race on the calendar this season, after Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Michael Schumacher is still the record holder of the race weekend with four wins.

The 2024 Australian Grand Prix

Thousands of enthusiastic fans usually cheer on home favourite Daniel Ricciardo, but in 2023, he missed out because he could not secure a contract. In 2024, Ricciardo will make his long-awaited return to his home race. He returned to action midway through 2023 for AlphaTauri. This team will be known as Visa Cash App RB in 2024.

The Australian fans will have another hero because Australian Oscar Piastri will drive for McLaren. The Albert Park Street Circuit (the track is located in the park and is only used for several racing events) took over from the Adelaide Street Circuit in 1996. It seems like Formula 1 will stay at the venue for many years after Liberty Media signed one of the most extended deals in history.

Max Verstappen won the 2023 Australian Grand Prix last time out. The Dutchman put down an early marker for what would come over the next few months, though it was one of the stranger events on the calendar. It ended with a double red flag.
